It’s not a bad thing to want to save a buck where you can, but you also need to know when to spend the money on something of quality. If you need to replace a missing tooth, that isn’t a time to skimp out. If you do, you could wind up with some serious issues.
Dental implants can be a little expensive, but if you decide to go for a cheaper option, you could put yourself at risk for dental problems. Here are a few reasons why cheap dental implants can be dangerous.
1. Nerve Damage
Surgery can be seriously disruptive to the nerve tissue in the area you’re dealing with. A good surgeon is well aware of that, and they will be able to be gentle when they put in your dental implant. However, if you go for an inexpensive dental implant surgery, you aren’t going to be dealing with the highest quality medical professionals.
Studies from King College Dental Institute have found that cheap implant surgeries have a greater chance of causing nerve damage. Repairing that nerve damage is not only uncomfortable, but it can also wind up making the procedure even more expensive than it would have been otherwise.
2. Implant Breakage
A good dental implant can last up to 30 years with proper maintenance, but cheaper dental implants just aren’t made of the same quality materials. A poorly-made dental implant could break much faster than something of quality, which is both a dangerous and expensive problem to have.
3. Breaching the Sinus Cavity
Your sinus cavities are a series of canals that are located all across the face and head. The maxillary sinus cavity runs very close to the upper jaw, so a surgeon will have to be careful not to accidentally perforate it if they put a dental implant in. Of course, a good surgeon will know that and take the proper precaution; but if you skimp out, you probably won’t get a good surgeon.
There are a lot of things you can do to save money, but when it comes to your oral health, you shouldn’t just go for the cheapest option. Find a good dentist that you can trust, and see if they have financing or insurance options that can make the treatment affordable for you.
